From smoldering glances on the train, to sizzling mixes in a stranger's kitchen, to hot house party hookups, this spicy blend of films will engage all of your senses and leave you craving more. Explicit Content
From simmering memories that threaten to explode, to the adjoining paths of culture and sexual identity, to incensed confrontations against street harassment, these films draw on the fire of our communities to forge our collective survival.
From the sultry lacing of Femme identity and voluptuous proportions,
to the scorching juncture where jazz talent converges with gender
expectations, to the fiery combination of joy and healing for transmen
of color, these films reflect the blistering fusion of glitter,
passion and resilience that our communities of color have always
embodied.
From the blazing links between drumming and spirituality, to the
searing mix of culture and tradition, to the fierce bonds of chosen
family, these films reveal that our devotion sparks our strength.
From feverish dreams and torrid longing, to a conflagration of
intertwined couplings, to a firestorm of love and immigration, these
films will kindle tender and tenacious connections. Explicit Content
We believe that music is crucial to film, and our Film Festival celebrates this vital combination of motion picture, music and message. To quote DJ Olga T, we think that like film, "music is the common language that transcends all the differences
among people. It shifts moods, inspires unity and speaks to all who are
listening."
QWOCMAP Filmmaker and singer/songwriter Tonilyn A. Sideco's new film, Toothbrush, premieres Saturday afternoon. It features songs from artists like Siaira Shawn and includes music from Kimi Lundie and beats by Seena Kitchen of the Earth Tone DJs, a Chi-town lesbian DJ group.
QWOCMAP Filmmaker K.B. Boyce, known as Delta Blues Drag King, TuffNStuff brings us their latest, That's So Gay! Featuring
a mix of images and music from performance diva Cecilio Cooper, femme
queen Ryka Aoki and hip hop artist Juba Kalamka. This film embodies the
intersections of identity by illuminating LGBTQ artists throughout
history.
QWOCMAP Filmmaker Kiz Dodds' 3Girlz & 9Lives includes
smooth and sexy beats from local hip hop artist JenRO, who also appears
in one of the hottest scenes on film. We're still feeling a bit warm
and on Closing Night, you'll feel it too.
Film Festival Awards
Join us at our Closing Night After Party for the presentation of the first ever Queer Women of Color Film Festival awards. We'll present the Audience
Award for the Best Film of our 2011 Queer Women of Color Film Festival. Courtesy of a generous API donor, we will also present two API Filmmaker Awards. It's going to be an amazing night... so don't miss it!
